Professor Sandra Speedy

Professor Speedy is Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and ProVice-Chancellor (Policy and Planning) at Southern Cross University. Her original qualification was in Psychiatric Nursing. She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Psychology and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning, both from the University of Adelaide. Her Masters Degree developed 'A Planning Model forWomens Health Care in Metropolitan Adelaide'. Feminist frameworks and Women's Health have been the major themes of her research and scholarship, particularly in the area of women's mental health.

Sandra was awarded a Kellogg Nursing Fellowship to complete her Doctorate at the University of Rochester, USA. Her dissertation on 'Faculty Development for Australian Tertiary Nursing-Perceptions of Heads of Nursing Programmes' has produced one of the few models that considers gender as a major component of staff development in institutions of higher education. Her ongoing research includes perceptions of Mammography and health risks; the provision of sexual assault services in rural areas, and the development of a health service provision model.
