Being a Hydraulic Engineer was one of my biggest dreams from my childhood. Having grown up in a traditional cultural country, whose primary concern was to make male engineers, but not female engineers, I knew that I had to go against the norm. The career as a female engineer and a researcher is quite challenging, especially when it comes to my PhD research in Hydraulic Engineering. The first thing that the gentlemen (not ladies of course) ask me is ‘Are you tough enough to climb ladders, lift the heavy weights, working alone and all the other male dominated tasks?’ Says Nadeesha: ‘Yeah, I have coped up with everything very well so far. So who says Engineering is not a “girl thing” at all?’
