We revisit icons in the WISENet calendar in this Journal 81. Judith Dawes
reviews Science meets Parliament Day. We hear about the Diana Temple
Memorial Lecture – still new but precious – this year delivered by Mary
O’Kane, NSW Chief Scientist. And Rosemary White, National Co-Convenor
reports on the ‘FASTS lane’…some positive directions for the future for
sure.
Although AGMs and formal Reports are not entertaining reading, they are
essential to any organisation. WISENet extends great thanks to Robyn Porter,
our Public Officer, for her valuable attention to detail to ensure that
WISENet remains within the law! Our revised Constitution is included in this
Edition for all to check; it is also lodged on our website
(http:www/wisenet-australia.org). Special thanks also to Diane for
organising the AGM and reporting so much excellent discussion. During this
time, Diane has been ‘with child’ and maintaining a full time job as well –
inspiring, inspiring.
Outcomes suggest it is not a case of a ‘need’ for WISENet but a ‘want’ for
WISENet – lots of networking, connection and professional companionship is
always good. But it is clear from the number of positions vacant that we
need a structure with less demand on executive members.
The audited accounts show a healthy situation: the future is in the hands of
meetings and minutes, but clearly, WISENet will live on. The 25th Birthday
anniversary forum at the University of Wollongong in November is an event to
look forward to: a chance to meet, converse and resolve.
