AWIS Conference

The theme of this year’s AWIS conference is “Striking a balance”. This theme reflects the balance required to manage different facets of a career in science, including scientific research, communication with the public and corporate strategies, as well as maintaining family commitments. The committee’s desire is to portray science as a vocation that can lead to outstanding career opportunities for women through a series of presentations by women with high profile careers in science who have achieved a successful balance in their lives. Workshops for further career development will also be included in the programme. The conference will also be accessible and of interest to young women nearing the end of their secondary or tertiary studies, raising the profile of science as a rewarding career option.

The conference committee would like to take this opportunity to thank their sponsors who include the Ministry of Research Science and Technology, RSNZ, Landcare Research, Otago University, Canterbury University, and AGMARDT. We have been delighted with the support we have already received, and continue to approach potential sponsors.

We hope you will be as excited about the program as we are. Updates on the conference will be on the website http://www.awis.org.nz/conferencespage.html  as they become available. Registration for the conference will open soon and will be available on the website.
