Issue 76 Contents

Editorial 76

One of the key issues identified in the WISENet position statement is the lack of recognition for women scientists. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we bring you three fantastic articles in this issue which highlight the contribution of women in the sciences. The first is an explanation of the report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007. Many women were involved in compiling this report, including our very own Julie Arblaster. See the interview with Julie at the end of the article for details on how it feels to be a Nobel Prize wining scientist. The second article recognises the contribution of women to science in Antarctica. What an inspirational list of women and their accomplishments. The third article is a report on the memorial lecture which was held in honour of Diana Temple.

As an accompaniment to these articles this issue also brings you opportunities. There are prizes to apply for (Chemistry honours students from Sydney), conferences to attend (AWIS, NZ in July), and a call for nominations for WISENet National Link Team positions.

Happy Reading from your editorial team
