Vale Ann Woolcock

Australia's women scientists lost a star with the recent death of Professor Ann Woolcock, AO, FAA, of Sydney University and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

A world famous respiratory researcher and clinician, she spent her working life de-mystifying asthma. Always supportive of women in science and medicine, she married and had two sons, trained a huge contingent of researchers and clinicians, undertook epidemiological studies on childhood asthma in diverse regions of Australia, developed theories of mechanisms and treated patients, up until the month she died. Breast cancer claimed her, at 63.

She'll be greatly missed.
