EUREKA GOLD - A RECORD $121,000 TO BE WON IN THE 2001 AUSTRALIAN MUSEUM EUREKA PRIZES!
A record thirteen prizes worth over $120,000 are on offer in the 2001 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes - Australia's pre-eminent national science awards. With new prizes for biodiversity research and for earth, environmental and planetary sciences in schools, and the return of the Eureka Science Book Prize, the Eureka Prizes are now the most comprehensive science awards in Australia.
The biodiversity research prize completes a triumvirate of Eureka Prizes for Australian research - for biodiversity, environmental and scientific research. Other Prizes on offer cover environmental education programs, industry commitment to science, critical thinking, environmental and scientific journalism, secondary school biological science, engineering innovation and the promotion of science.
The Eureka Prizes are a unique cooperative partnership between the federal government, the NSW state government, educational institutions and a range of private sector organisations and companies to reward excellence in Australian science and raise the profile of science in the community.
In launching the 2001 Eureka Prizes, the Director of the Australian Museum, Professor Mike Archer underlined the vital role of individuals and organisations in identifying suitable candidates for these prestigious awards. "Quality entries from across Australia are needed to ensure that the Eureka Prizes continue to highlight Australia's outstanding scientific and technological achievement." he said.
Entries/nominations in the 2001 Eureka Prizes close on Friday 9 February 2001. Winners will be announced at an award ceremony at the Australian Museum on 15 May 2001 and profiled on ABC TV's award-winning Quantum program on 17 May 2001.
