Editorial

The journal has returned to Sydney and this is my first attempt as editor. Thanks are due to Wendy Russell and the Wollongong team for the July edition, and to Jean Hollis Weber, who has retired as editor for the Sydney team, having made an enormous contribution over the last few years.

With the imminent re-launch of WISENET’s webpage (see the letter to the editor) the role of the journal is under review. Some sections, especially news and forthcoming events may better suit the web. Any comments or suggestions are very welcome.

We also include two of the remaining four Science Futures not yet published. This fine series will be completed in the next edition.

The importance of role models was brought home to me a few years ago. At that time my young son’s experience of meteorologists was limited to me and a female friend who visited regularly. He delighted us one day by enquiring whether boys could be meteorologists too!

Life before the web??

Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?

T.S. Eliot
(Choruses from The Rock, Collected Poems 1909-19)
