Women in Science in the European Union

WISENET members may like to keep an eye on the work now being done by the Women and Science Sector of the Research Directorate (formerly DG 12) of the European Commission; see http://www.cordis.lu/improving/src/women.

Set up a few years ago by Edith Cresson and run by Nicole Dewandre, the sector's activities have included:

• conferences in Brussels discussing central topics to women in science;
• gatherings to promote networking of women in science; you can download their list of women's networks from http://www.cordis.lu/improving/src/women_net;
• gatherings of civil servants;
• setting up an ETAN committee of women scientists from 11 EU countries to report on the present position and make recommendations for the future.
