Congratulations to WISENET member, Fiona Wood, as convenor of the
workshop 'Beyond Brain Drain' - Mobility, Competitiveness & Scientific
Excellence.
The Workshop was attended by a broad cross-section of the
Scientific and Research Community. The resulting Report which was
recently launched at Parliament House and is being distributed by FASTS
is having a significant impact and being widely discussed. For more

Dr Diane Webster, VIC WISENET
Convenor, has been awarded a UNESCO-L'Oreal Fellowship for Women in the
Life Sciences. The awards provide for 15 women each year to
travel to another laboratory to further their research and help

The European Commission's 6th Framework Programme has a specific theme
for Science & Society. €80
million (A$137 million) have been allocated over the five years
2002-2006. The European Commission is determined to bridge the gap
between the scientific community and society with a focus on women in
science. Projects encourage networking with groups outside the
European Union on topics that strongly support WISENET aims and

This initiative by the National Library of Australia has archived over
5000 Australian websites whose material might otherwise become lost or
overlooked when removed. The WISENET website is included.

Accordingly, the following statement has been added to the WISENET
website on June 7, 2004,
"Contributors to WISENET should be aware that permission for inclusion
in the Archive is implicit in any contribution made to the WISENET

of Treasurer for the past 12 months. Under Karen's guidance WISENET now
