This
half-day workshop is specifically designed to engage female
postgraduate students and early career researchers with inspirational
women in their field. Around 50% of PhDs in the sciences are awarded
to women. In the academic profession, this percentage declines dramatically
with increasing senority and less than 5% of professorships are held
by women. Such figures are daunting for women at early stages of
their careers and good female role models are few and far between.
This
workshop has assembled leading QLD scientists for the purpose of
information sharing, guidance and mentoring. Presenters will share
their own experience, provide real examples of success and knowledge,
speak about the challenges women in the early stages of their science
careers are likely to face and offer guidance on how to leap over the
hurdles. The workshop will provide a forum for discussion and
networking with the aim of retaining women in science long term and
allowing them to progress their careers to maximum potential.
