Spatial Information Services - Advanced Diploma

Program Summary: Spatial Information Services form part of the spatial information sciences industry and describes the relationship of data between and location of objects, themes, events or activities. Major discipline sectors of the industry include mapping sciences, cartography, remote sensing and surveying. You will learn data acquisition techniques using digital equipment such as Geographical Positioning Systems (GPS) and Electronic Distance Measuring equipment (EDM), whilst developing complex skills in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to produce a range of digital map products, and apply analysis tools to solve specific problems. You will gain knowledge and skills in aerial photo interpretation, satellite imagery, 3D visualisation and computer aided drafting (CAD), to compile, transfer and manipulate data from a range of digital formats into products. These products may include landform models, digital topographic and thematic maps, engineering drawings, 3D digital models and asset management plans.

Qualifications:

Advanced Diploma of Spatial Information Services (PRD60301)
with early exits at
Diploma of Spatial Information Services (PRD50301)
Certificate III in Spatial Information Services (PRD30301)
These qualifications meet the requirements of the Property Development and Management Training Package (PRD01)

POSTAL - To apply for this program you MUST complete an Application Form.

Attendance: 4 semesters full-time (approx. 20-22 hours per week) OR part-time equivalent

Youth Allowance/Austudy: Click here for more information

Job Opportunities: GIS operator, spatial data manager, professional officer (GIS), survey operations team leader, GIS or CAD technician, GIS officer (spatial information)

Entry Requirements: You must have:
- an ACT Year 12 Certificate (or equivalent)
OR
- a Certificate III in Spatial Information Services (or equivalent).

Selection Criteria: You will be given preference if you:
- have successfully completed a T-Minor in Year 12 English, mathematics and computing subjects (completion of subjects involving the use of spatial data is an advantage)
- have relevant work experience or interest in the spatial information industry.

Selection Process:
1. An assessment of your previous educational record, work or other relevant experience and interest in the field as identified on the application form.
2. Where appropriate, an assessment will be made of your potential to successfully complete the program and achieve the standards required for employment in the industry. This will be done through either an interview or your written personal statement.
