WISENet National Executive Moves to Victoria.
At the WISENet AGM in May WISENet members elected a number of Victoria members to the National Executive. As a result the National Exec is now being run from Melbourne. This is consistent with the policy for rotation of the National Exec as set out in our constitution. We'd like to offer a vote of public thanks to Anna Robinson and all the women who have supported her in running WISENet from Canberra. For those of us taking over it's an exciting time of learning the ropes and getting more active in the promotion of women in science.
Let me introduce the National Exec to you:
Diane Webster (Vic) - National Co-convenor and website editor. Diane is based at the Burnet Institute in Melbourne where she runs a small research group in molecular farming.
Rosemary White (ACT) - National Co-convenor and FASTS contact. Rosemary is a senior scientist at CSIRO, Plant Industry in Canberra and will provide a vital link to FASTS and our politicians. [As well as easy access to members of the ACT-Exec!]
Olivia Broadley (Vic) - Journal Coordinator.
Julie Arblaster (Vic) - Membership coordinator.
Nancy Lane (Vic) - Treasurer.
Melissa Wakefield (ACT) - committee member. Melissa is investigating some interesting electronic communication forms to enhance the ability of WISENet members to communicate with each other!
Anna Robinson (ACT) - immediate past National convenor. Anna will continue with the Honouring Women program that she set up as the National Convenor.
Diana Temple (SYD) - committee member, past convenor, founding member - Diana provides us with perspective, history and invaluable advice.
Rosemary Sutton (SYD) - committee member - Rosemary has been a member of WISENet for many years, and like Diana she also provides us with perspective, history and invaluable advice.
Robyn Porter (ACT) continues as our Public Officer.
Nancy Lane (Vic) - Treasurer. Nancy is the Manager of the International Centre of Excellence for Education in Mathematics.
Julie Arblaster (Vic) - Membership coordinator. Julie is a climate scientist at the Bureau of Meteorology Research Centre in Melbourne. Her research focuses on understanding how our climate has changed over the last century and how it may change in the future. She obtained a BSc(Hons) from Macquarie University and an MSc in atmospheric science from the University of Colorado while working at the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research. Julie intends to enrol part-time as a PhD student at the University of Melbourne in 2007.
