We are fortunate that Nancy Lane, who is to visit Australia on a British Council sponsored lecture tour, has agreed to address WISENET members at our AGM on July 13, the date chosen to suit her one available free evening in Sydney. Dr Lane, a famous British advocate for women scientists, will speak on:
"Recent Initiatives for Women in Science in the UK and Europe".

Nancy J Lane OBE, DPhil, Sc.D., LLD (Hon), D.Sc.(Hon), F.I.Biol.,is a scientist in Cell Biology at Cambridge University where she lectures and does research in the Zoology Department. Canadian-born, Dr Lane's career took her to Oxford for her doctorate, New York, Yale then to Cambridge. An Official Fellow of Girton College, Cambridge, she has 200 published papers in cell biology and is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Cell Biology International. She has held Visiting Professorships at a variety of European and South American universities. Dr Lane was appointed by the Prime Minister to a 6-member Citizen's Charter Advisory Panel in 1991 and chaired the Working Party on Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET). A 1994 report published from this work, The Rising Tide, led to a government Development Unit to carry forward recommendations on greater participation by women in SET. Married with two children, she was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday 1994 Honours List for services to science.
