The Wollongong branch of WISENET organised a WISENET display at the University of Wollongong Open Day, held on 31 August. The display was based on materials from a larger Women in Science display, put together by WISENET with particular input from Jasmine Payget, Caroline Scowcroft and Diana Temple. It included profiles of eminent women researchers, and we were proud to include Prof. Helen Garnett, who was Head of the Biological Sciences Department at UoW until 1993. We also included a profile of a recent graduate of UoW, Dr Susan Carthew, who is working as a senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide.
The Open Day was largely visited by high school students in search of course and career information. The WISENET display was set up at the entrance to the Science foyer, amongst courses and careers displays from various departments, and there was plenty of interest from students and parents as they passed by, with a number taking free copies of the latest WISENET journal and information sheets. Several advanced science and postgraduate students who were helping us staff information counters also enquired about WISENET, having seen the display.
I would like to thank Diana Temple for bringing the material for the display down from Sydney. The display was a valuable addition to our Open Day displays, and raised the profile of WISENET at the university.
