WISENET welcomes discussion of any issues raised in the Journal through the Letters column. We would also like to hear news gleaned from news-papers, journals, workshops and conferences of relevance to WISENET members and related to our aims.
Dear Editor,
Kindly accept warm greetings from Ghana, precisely Kumasi, the garden city of Ghana. I am a 37 year old woman soil scientist (M.Sc) working at the address below. I graduated in 1987 from the Tashkent Agricultural Institute. I've been working here for the past 3 years. Prior to my present job I worked as an agricultural extension officer, and then at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Kwabenya Accra.
I culled your address from the Women's Network Newsletter of the British Council. My colleagues and I decided to get in touch and find out all about your association. Over here in Ghana we have a similar association, ie Ghanaian Women in Science and Technology, of which I am a member. Of course, Ghanaian women in science and technology are very few and so we have a lot to do here.
One of our prime aims is to sensitise girls to read science, having the sky as the limit. African women form the bulk of farmers but rather unfortunately they are at a great disadvantage. So again here our help is much needed since the development status of women in a country is a key index to the overall development of the country in question.
I'll sign off here hoping to hear from you soon with all about WISENET and any other helpful information. I'll be interested to further communicate especially with the agriculturalists. All the best for now and God bless.
Yours faithfully,
Violet Awotwi Quayson
